[ INTRODUCTION ]
The NATIONAL HOUSING AUTHORITY (NHA), thru the Gender and Development Committee, is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Sustainable Housing Design & Development Research Conference. The conference, combined with a workshop, will be held at the NHA Operations Center, 3/F Main Bldg, Quezon City on February 16-17, 2010.
This maiden conference focuses on exploring opportunities and managing implications in the pursuit of sustainability in housing. We have lined up presentations relating to integrated policies, cross-sectoral governance and issues concerning Gender Mainstreaming in Housing Development. A target of 50 participants from identified sectors, such as professionals & practitioners, grass roots & NHA community leaders, NGOs, the academia, shelter agencies, and people in governance will be invited.
We welcome attendance from these varied sectors to get them acquainted with the latest developments on sustainable development, innovations and practical measures addressing housing and gender issues.
The conference-cum-workshop specifically aims to 1) increase understanding among various sectors representing a big cross section of the society of the implications of gender issues in sustainable housing development 2) integrate gender issues in housing design and development, 3) identify ways of developing plans for documenting housing design parameters in connection with gender, and 4) kick off the initiative for the formulation of a manual for housing design and development that features gender sensitive parameters.
Expected beneficiaries are government policymaking bodies, the private sector, media, the community and non-government organizations, the academe, as well as financial institutions that are involved in housing development and economic empowerment programs. Ultimately, this will redound to women and other less-privileged members of the society in their quest for a much improved quality of life -through a viable and sustained gender sensitive housing design & development.
