The amended guidelines governing the development of socialized and economic housing are now in place.
Vice President and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council Chairman Noli de Castro said the latest revisions of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Batas Pambansa 220 provide standards and rules that would enable developers to promote cost efficient production and build affordable housing units, including medium rise buildings. He also hailed the timeliness of the revised IRR given the many changes and new economic challenges facing the housing industry today.
The newest amendments to the IRR were passed by the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) under Resolution No. 824 series of 2008 and as recommended by the technical working group. It focused on the technical guidelines and standards for subdivisions and building design and standards for single family dwelling and multi-family dwellings and condominiums applicable for both socialized and economic housing. The revised guidelines ensure compliance with the Fire Code and National Building Code. The revisions were formulated following a series of consultations led by the HLURB and the Organization of Socialized Housing Developers of the Philippines (OSHDAP)
Primarily, BP 220 was enacted in 1982 to promote the development of housing units for the low to middle income markets by setting down standards that encourage the private sector to build affordable homes that are safe, habitable and cost efficient. |
