FGD-GAD in Isabela and Mindanao

A male-dominated focused-group discussion (FGD) cum Gender and Development (GAD) workshop session was held for two days in Region II, Isabela last July 20-22, 2011, where some 23 participants from different Local Government Units (LGUs) in the region actively contributed and shared their best inputs in the sessions.

This event was spearheaded by the NHA-GAD committee headed by Ms. Lorna M. Seraspe, GAD Focal Point and now Group Manager, Visayas Management Office and undertaken by the staff of Northern and Central Luzon office, under Engr. Felicisimo F. Lazarte, also the Group Manager of the same office.

The recently-concluded FGD tackled an in-depth discussion on the design development and planning parameters which are gender-sensitive. Outputs of these sessions will be incorporated in the Housing Design Manual being prepared by the Study Team on Design Conference Chairperson Arch. Beth Regala, Manager, Housing and Technology Development Department.

The objectives of the conference were generally achieved and the participants' evaluation outputs stressed that they were satisfied with the sessions and commented that this kind of GAD-FGDs be conducted regularly.

Other regional FGD-GAD conferences were held in Mindanao, Region X- Cagayan de Oro City, for Regions XI and XII in Davao City and Region IX in Pagadian City. Said trainings were aimed at developing and enhancing awareness of employees in the regional offices and even the community beneficiaries.
