Vice-President and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Chair Jejomar C. Binay was the guest of honor at the National Housing Authority's (NHA) 36th anniversary celebration last October 14, 2011 with theme "NHA: Tapat na Kaagapay sa Programang Pabahay at Masiglang Pamumuhay". It was a two-day event which celebrated in simple and austere rites the milestones of the agency.

NHA General Manager Atty. Chito M. Cruz said, "as the NHA builds homes to give people better lives, it is also committed to empower them by developing their skills to gain employment or start-up a micro-enterprise."

On October 17, 2011, the program included granting of Loyalty and Honor Awards to the employees who have shown excellent performance in their own fields of endeavor. This year, the NHA in coordination with HUDCC started the AFP/PNP Housing Program which will largely provide permanent housing and security of tenure to the military and police personnel whose need for housing is being addressed by the Aquino administration. Todate around 10,000 housing units have been constructed in various provinces in Rizal, Laguna and Cavite. Other AFP/PNP housing sites in Visayas and Mindanao will be undertaken next year.

NHA recently completed the orderly and peaceful relocation operations in Vitas, Tondo, of the Diosdado Macapagal Tenement amid strong resistance from its more than 570 occupants. Todate, a total of 445 families were resettled to Towerville 6 in Gaya-Gaya, San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan; nineteen families availed the "Balik-Probinsiya Program", while 106 families transferred to other places.

NHA under its Charter, PD 757, is mandated to provide and maintain adequate housing for the greatest number of people; undertake housing development, resettlement and other activities in housing ventures for families living in danger areas, victims of calamities and those affected by government infrastructure projects.
