Resettlement assistance extended to QC fire victims

The National Housing Authority headed by Atty. Chito M. Cruz, General Manager extends resettlement assistance to East Triangle (NHA Property) Botanical Area, Brgy. Central, Quezon City fire victims.

Approximately 2,689 informal settler families (ISFs) occupying the Botanical Area at East Triangle will receive relocation and resettlement assistance in Southville 8-B and Southville 1-K-1 in Rodriguez, Rizal (Montalban) (Sites 1 and IV) and Towerville (Gaya-Gaya) in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

The February 7, 2011 fire incident which started at around 10:54 P.M. and declared fire out by the Quezon City Fire Department at around 4:00 A.M. February 8, begun at the center of the Botanical Area. At present, affected families occupy the sidewalks of Agham Road and portions of Quezon Avenue and East Avenue.

Clearing and relocation operations will prioritize the affected fire victims. These are targeted for completion within five (5) months starting February 10, 2011 and will be completed by the end of July 2011. On the other hand, involuntary demolition if found necessary will commence once the fire victims are all relocated to the resettlement area by end of July 2011.

The Quezon City Local Government Unit committed to provide trucking services and buses to transport the affected families and their belongings to their new homes. NHA on the other hand will only augment transport provision such as providing vans to transport women, children and the elderly from the Botanical Area, Quezon City to Rodriguez, Rizal (Montalban)in case trucking services from the QC -LGU are insufficient.

The Quezon City East Triangle NHA Properties comprise approximately 9.26 hectares that include the Botanical Area, NIA Road and North Avenue corner Agham Road.

Mandated to provide decent and affordable shelter to Filipinos, the NHA is under the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) chaired by Vice President Jejomar C. Binay.
